THE INANGAHUA ELECTION.

MR. IVESS'S MEETING AT BLACK'S POINT. [advertisement.] The following was received by us by telegraph last night :—- --(To the Editor of the Inangahita Herald.) Sir — In your report of the meeting held here last night, you state that Messrs Davies and M'Lean " introduced most gross personalities," and further, that the Chairman's declaration that the amendment was carried, was made " amidst uproar and confusion." As we were present at the meeting, we most positively assert that both the above statements are untrue ; aid in justice to thetwoge'ntlemen mentioned, we must add that the only i( gross personalities" used by any of the speakers were indulged in by Mr Ivess. In conclusion, we can only say that as the report referred to is evidently the production of Mr Ivess's pen, it affords another among the many sound reasons why ' ' he is not a fit and proper person to represent this district in the Provincial Council." We are, &c., F. Franklyn. Nicol Ramsay. Black's Point, January 15, 1873. (To the Editor of the Inangahua Herald.) Sir— Will you kindly allow us to contradict a statement which appears in your issue of the 15th instant, to the effect that we used gross personalities when addressing Mr Ivess's meeting at Black's Point, in support of the amendment . against him. As the paragraph alluded : to is evidently the production of the aspiring candidate, we are not at all sur- '' prised that he should try to mislead the electors who were not present. Evi- ' dently hi 3 wrath -was kindled, and, : " devil like, he set the 'type, and left the ■ truth behind." Even in his admission of the fact that the amendment was carried, ■ he introduced an untruth by saying that it ' was carried "amidst uproar and con- " ( fusion." We think it must be patent to the electors that any man whose tongue ' is addicted to tergiversation is not exactly ' fitted for a seat in the Provincial Council. We are, &c, * L. Davies. * W. M'Lean. i ■ E
