The steamer Luna appeared off the pore of Greymouth yesterday afternoon, naving made the passage round from Dunedin by Eoveaux Straits. One purpose of her visit to the West Coast was to call at Preservation Inlet, to enable Dr Hector and others to inspect the coal of that part of the Co*s>t, and it is probable that she obtained a sufficient supply of coal while at the Inlet, as she appeared to be deep, and she seems to have passed on northward. She came close inshore, and exchanged signals, but did not make her appearance at tne bar at tide trme, and the supposition is that she proceeded direct to Wellington. The weather became very broken after she cailed off the port, and she must have experienced rather a wild night of it in running np the Coast. The schooner Mary Van Every was announced to sail from Dunedin for this port on the 4th hist. The s.B. Rangitoto is cllie to-day from Melbourne direct. She will take passengers for all New Zealand ports, and Melbourne via the Bluff. The barque Faldin, with teas, left Foo-Chow-Foo for Port Chalmers on the Ist November. The three-masted schooner Bonnie Dunkeld is also expected from the same quarter.
