A HIGHLANDMAN'S LETTER.
A gentleman advertised for a sheep-dog as follows:— To Shepherds.— Wanted, a pure bred sheep-dog. State color and price, free on board a London steamer, to Mr.D. G. P. Macdonald, Sydenham," And thia was one of the replies he got : — " Gairloch, Ross-shire, Scotland. "Honurable Sir,— l seed in Friday last Inverness Courier a advertisement for pure bred sheps Dog, I vrite your Honur to telt you, that I have exselent one Bred of pure Blod, 7 months of age ; Him have bone and rib, more stronger than i ever yet did seed ; and He as wise as womans or man. By half a words of command he will go off 1000 yards, and take any number, of shops to my heil ; and him understand anythings I say to him by sins, like Dumy. Him color Blacke on the Backe to near end of taile; Him them whit ; Him hind legs at pint whit, one of four fets whit, other black ; Him whit under Beley, and sume of the same under rauzzlee ; Bit of him'a nose whit like half Moon. Him coreus color. Buts god dog never have bad color ; Him ears Black, stand up when hear sound Uke ears of Fox. One of ears have white spotee near head size of pony; Him eye white Broun, will see as far as Hake or Eagle ; and him skin as fine as Backe of Lady hands. Him was breed myself, and I did keep it from Mothers womb, and him got plently of Mothers milk when whelpe. Hims name be sprat, called after the young Herri nges, cause him be ao mad in love of them to eatee we mashed Tatoes ; him not shentle, will eatee anything ; plenty good Shepherds say him god enogh for Prince Halbert, as Him as pnra Breed as Prince Halbert, as Him as pure Breed as most Gracious our Queen at Balmoral; Him price, free on board steamer for London, in England, is 37 shilling to be paid through Bank of Caledonia at Dingwall, Ross-shire, Scotland, north Bfetton; or though Mr William Mackenzie, Gairloch, Ross-shire, Scotland, North Bretton: Him. will learn anything, he is so wise, and from what i know of your Honor, and o£ your, friends, i would rather you have it in your possession than any other Shentlemen alive ; as laa fond of him as of my Childers or wife. Dog will be time before he get over the Callic, his Mother and Father tong, and lame the. English laha^e ; but as him act Dumy, ; i tell you the Sins, ans you can yourself put lanage to them. He soon be scoolled then, and perfect for work mong sheepa — expect answer from your Honur, addressed to as above when you havetho time. As Hims teat bes sharp, string will be too wake to put him of we, so must provide chains and collar of letber, so that come too 2 shillings, more.
