Otherwise the passengers are wellIt is believed that the Palmerston has scarlet fever on board. There were six deaths. ' A night attack on Dunedin, by the Dido, is contemplated. 8 p.m. The Christian M'Ausland has been quarantined. ' The Superintendent declines to call the Council together. Mr Walters writes to the Crass relative to the disqualification of Peeress. He says it was well known that Peeress was for sale. Several persons offered to purchase her. Believing that his horses had a good chance, he purchased Peeress, intending to run Yatterina for the Cup, keeping Peeress, fresh for the Handicap. He at once scratched Peeress, saving any one from losing on her, He says she r could not win the Cup. He attributes the disqualification to the jealousy of Canterbury owners. He says he has owned race-horses for ten years, and has always acted fairly, running to win, ! The Education Bill enforces a household tax of 20s in additioiyto the children capitation tax passed. by the Committee of the Council. CiiRiSTOHURCHJ, Dec. 6. The Provincial Council have decided to deal with drainage and Bauitary control
in country districts in a comprehensive manner, with the object of throwing responsibility on landowners. The Colonial Government will be requested to introduce a General Drainage Act next session.
