ROAD BOARD ELECTIONS.

PAROA. The nomination of candidates for the Paroa Road Board took place yesterday at noon. . ' ■ The Returning Officer (Mr Maurice O'Connor) announoed the object for which the meeting had been called, and remarked, before he proceeded to the nomination, that the Board was placed in a very unfortunate position as to funds, and as a contested election would involve a considerable expense, he hoped that only the required number of candidates would be proposed, or that the show of hands would be taken as conclusive if more candidates than the required number came forward. He felt Bure that, by carefully considering the matter, the electors would find the right class of men without a poll, . but he could only say Jhat if a poll should be demanded, in spite of what he had remarked, he would have no alternative but to appoint it. Ho then called upon some person to nominate a candidate, .when Mr John , DowiiNG proposed, and Michael Butler seconded, Mr Thomas Colton as a tit-and proper person, to take a seat in the Road Board. Messrs M'Giilicuddy, David Morissy, Maijrice O'Connor, James Duffy, and Patrick Morissy were also nominated, and The Returning Officer called in a show of hands, resulting as follows :— Colton, 21 ; M^Gillicuddy, .19 ; David Morissy, 19 ; P. Morissy, 16 j" Maurice' O'Connor, 16 j James Duffy, 8; Mr Patrick Morissy retired with the consent of his proposer, and • Mr John Dowling demanded a poll on behalf of James Duffy. Mr Maurice O'Connor stated that in order not to incur any expense he would letire from the candidature, and he then declared Messrs Colton, M'Gillicuddy, Morissy, and Duffy duly elected.' A vote of thanks to the Returning Officer terminated the proceedings.
