TOTARA DISTRICT NOMINATION.

Th^e nomination of a member for the Council to represent the Totara district was made on Monday at Ross, before Mr Justin Aylmer, Returning Officer. Mr Hamilton Cuming was proposed by Mr T. S. Proudfoot, and seconded by Mr D. Curie. Mr Henry Tribe was proposed by Mr H. Gutheil, and seconded by Mr T. Kitchen. The show of hands . was in favor of: Mr Tribe,; who had sixteen, while Mr Cuming had fourteen. A. poll was demanded. Mr Tribe declined to say anything, but proposed to explain himself fully next evening. Mr Cuming, in his address, explained that his reason for allowing himself to be nominated was that there was no one else to oppose Mr Tribe.
