The Bteamer Kennedy, under command of Captain Qnance, arrived off the port early on the tide yesterday, and towards highwater crossed the bar. She left Westport early in the morning, and Nelson on Wednesday last The s.s. Albion ia the next steamer due at this port from Melbourne direct. Her arrival may be expected on Tuesday, 26th inst. Daniel Fitzpatrick has been brought before the Resident Magistrate's Court, at Nelson, charged with taking a passage on board the B.S. Alhambra from Melbourne to New Zealand without paying his fare, and not having any means of doing so. The man pleaded guilty, and in examination, said he had a sore hand, and had no friends in Melbourne from whom he could assistance. Capt. Pearce stated to the Court that the offence was aggravated by the prisoner without cause finding fault with the accommodation, the cooking, and the food, and yet when the ship arrived off the Coast, it was found that he had neither ticket nor passage money. The Court ordered Fitzpatrick to pay I 6, tho amount of the faro, with L 3 of a fine added, and failing payment to undergo 21 days' imprisonment with hard Übor; The Child 3fail, of the 22nd August. notices the arrival at Hong Kong of the ship England, Captain Harrington, from Newcastle, N.8.W., after a passage of 40 days, one of the shortest on record. It speaks of the possibility of fast-sailing vessels enabling the Australian Colonies to compete success' folly with England for the coal trade in the China Seas.
