Yesterday rooming the p.s Dispatch ran out and brought to tho wharf the schooner Mavis, from Kaipara (Auckland Province) with a cargo of sawn Kauri timber. Last night tho Dispatch towed to sea the schooner Mpray, coal-laden for Hokitika. The s.s. Kennedy sailed yesterday afternoon for Hokitika
The Lyttelton Times, of the Bth instant, says : — The schoonor Aurora met with considerable damage on Thursday night, owing to the men leaving her and going ashore It appears that on Captain Chapman coming down to his vessel about 7 p.m. he found no one on board, ami the vessel it? a very dangerous position— bows across the wharf. Before Bhe could be got off into safety her starboard stern bulwarks were smashed, jibboom smashed, and cathead carried away, besides other damage. It -will cost nearly ISO to repair her. We are glad to have to congratulate Capt, Francis Hepburn, late chief officer of the s.s. ltangatira, upon his promotion to the command of that vessel. Captain Hepburn has lojii lorg and favorably known in the Now Zealand trade, and was always greatly liked by all classes of passengers. We wish him success in his new command.— Ncio Zealand Herald, October 24.
