[continued.] ♦ BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH: [NEW ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION,] 1 [The following, in continuation of the telegraphic message which was interrupted by a breakage of the wires on Wednesday morning, was received by us yesterday afternoon.] London, Sept. 6. Mr Bessemer is constructing a steamer for the Channel service, having a suspended saloon, warranted to maintain a horizontal position. There were four executions in one day ; three at Maidstone and one at Stafford. Johnson failed in his attempt to swim across the Channel, and was- obliged to desist after he had gone seven miles. The American Squadron is visiting the English coast. The Foresters fete at the Crystal Palace was attended'by 85,000 persons. Chaffers has renewed his prosecution of Lady Twiss, by applying for a summons for perjury, which was refused. Grave trouble is anticipated in the agricultural districts after the harvest. Bitter antagonism is springing up between the farmers and laborers.
