Mr Gaskin has been found washed up in the Aorere river. Chkisichuboh, Oct. 18. Pownall, of Wellington, exhibited a flax machine before the Committee of the Flax Association, who were favorably impressed, but postpone their opinion till after a week's trial. Flour, Ll2; wheat, 43 9d to 4s lOcl ; barley, 6s 3d to 6s 6d ; oats,*2s 2d to 2s 3d ; butter, 9£d ; cheese, 8d ; grain inactive. | Auckland, Oct. 18. : The Raglan tribes take great interest in the establishment of schools. One chief , offers ten acres for a school site. The natives are forming a company, I with a capital of LIOO, to purchase a schooner for the produce market. Rebel natives own a number of shares. Bluff, Oct. 18. Sailed — Mary Ann, for Lyttelton ; Alhambra, for Dunedin. Wellington, Oct, 18. At the Press Conference thirty papers were represented, and a resolution was passed to appoint a deputation to urge upon the Government for reduction in the price of Press messages to sixpence for twenty-five words; that a fixed allowance be made to papers publishing postal notices, and to call attention to the unsatisfactory result of the insertion of public notices in a Gazette only.
