Australian and New Zealand debentures are reported by the last Suez mail to have ' been in good demand all the month, and are now hpld firmly at increased quotations. Australian bank stock has been eagerly sought after, but holders are mostly unwilling to sell even at an advance on present prices. Australian interests generally never stood higher in the London market than at the present time. At the annual meeting of the Bank of Otago, London, the report, which was adopted, showed that, after providing for bad and doubtful debts, the balance at the credit of profit and loss nccountwas L 8370. Oat of this, a dividend of 2 per cent. v*as declared*' L 3500 devoted to extinguishing the preliminary expenses account, and the balance carried forward.
