Frank Travers, son of Judge Travers, has been sentenced to eighteen months' imprisonment, with hard labor, for forgery. Shaw, Saville and Co. threaten the Freight Company to reduce freight to 5? per ton if necessary. The Company is not intimidated. An outbreak of a serious kind has occurred at the Chatham Islands. New Plymouth, Oct. 8. Yesterday, Major Atkinson left for Wellington. Dunedin, Oct. 8. Broods of pheasants have been seen at Tokomairiro. Nelson, Oct. 8. The Colonist believes that, a Government, including Mr Yogel, Mr Waterhouse, Mr M'Lean and Mr Ormond, could carry on the business of the country.
