[WJSW ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.] THE GOVERNOR DECLINES TO DISSOLVE PARLIAMENT. THE MINISTRY EXPECTED TO RESIGN. Wellington, Oct. 7. It is understoood that Mr Stafford requested the Governor to grant a dissolution of the House of Representatives, and that his Excellency refused to do so. The Ministry are expected 'to resign unless supplies are granted, which is not likely. ; The Supreme Court is sitting for the trial of criminal charges. The calendar, is a light one. . Auckland, Oct. 7. At the oponipg oi the criminal sessions of the Supreme Court, the Judge announced that he knew of no prosecution in the Green Haip case. The calendar is. very light. There was a false alarm of fire at the Theatre on Saturday evening, while Miss Rose Evans was playing Hamlet. There, was a crowded houso, but the panic was stopped before any damage was done. DpjJEDJN, Oct. 7. At the criminal sessions, Samuel Holly, for larceny, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment. Geo, Sinclair was acquitted on a charge of horse-stealing. Plummer's trial is appointed for Wednesday. He declines to plead till he has had time to consider the evidence. ' ■ ■'' ' ' Waiuka, Oct. 7. A meeting of settlers held here condemned the proposal to return confiscated land, and to withdraw the subsidy to Road Boards. :
