News has reached the Thames by way of Ohinemuri that Macfarlane, the prospector, was arrested at Waihi, near Tauranga, on Monday last. The report states that three constables had been despatched from Short* laud by Mr Puckey, native agent, to make the arrest. Macfarlane had been out prospecting in the district for aboiit tour months, ' aud was said to have lodged specimens in the office of the Superintendent, and was also reputed to have a permit from the Superin* tendent.
