The steamer Albion, with the Australian and Suez mails, was tendered on this morning's tide, and proceeded direct to Nelson. The following is the Australian summary of news : — Mblcournb, Sept. 25. The Government Education measure is causing ' agitation. The second reading was moved in the Assembly yesterday. Duffy and the Opposition condemn it. The debate is proceeding, and is likely to be protracted. Sir James M'Cullooh is to be asked to accept the Agent-Generalship. The Governor has received no intimation of hiß successor. Turnbull and Campbell are re-elected to the Council. " ;. The ocean race between the steamers Northumberland and Great Britain caused great excitement. The result was in favor of .the .Great Britain by three days. Both made splendid runs. The Victoria, with the Ministry aboard grounded in the channel. An inquiry is to be held. , The Church Assembly held a short sitting. A nasal disease is prevalent amongst horses.
