[NEW ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Sept. 19. . Several unimportant bills were read a second time last night. The second reading of the Drainage Bill was carried by 37 to 6, on the understanding that the Bill be withdrawn, the Government promising to prepare a more complete measure for next session. The Otago Land Bill was partially considered in Committee; ' To-day Mr Stafford announced the death of Patuahone, brother to. Tamati Waka, and stated that instructions had been given to the Government Agent at Auckland to give the deceased a public funeral. Tairoa introduced a Bill to constitute a Native Council for the Middle Island. Mr Collins introduced a Bill to provide for the formation of the Nelson Gold Fields into a County, with a definite share of its own revenues ; the Bill also to be applicable to the formation of the Amuri district into a County. Mr Sheehan's amendment Qn Mr Macandrew's motion, relative to the allocation of the Gold Fields Water Supply vote amongst the Provinces, on the basis of the mining population, under direction of local authorities, was, after further debate, negatived by 29 to 23. 7.50 p.m. Mr Curtis has taken up O'Conor's Bill to extend the miner's right so as to make it apply either to Nelson or Westland when once issued. Mr White suggested that the right should run over the whole Colony. Mr Curtis promised to consider the suggestion. 8 p.m. Mr G illies has 3 ust announced that he hopes to be able to make his Financial Statement on Tuesday, and that the Publio Works Statement will probably be made on Thursday. -
