On Friday morning there were about two hundred people on the ground, and several holes going down, the sinking being very shallow, averaging from four to seven feet. On enquiry, the report of the nuggets being found was true, the lucky finder being a man of the name of Austin, who. had been working on the fajrm of bis brother-in-law, Mr Clarke, of the Beep Creek. He had been working ywxp for yeara, on, and off, but he had never got enough, to keep him before finding the first nugget, which weighed 3)360z sdwt, and was sold {or L&4& He aftetwajqd^ found, a smaller piece* which he said weighed abnu;t 3psi this was in a cjajm no}; more than four or five feet d^ep, but in, ne\K ground. He declared he,.gol no fine gold* but got bub one speck befpre. getting the nuggets, and one speck aft^r, and he said that the nature of the diggings was the same as Kingower — a ongget or nothing. This statement was afterwards confirmed by Mr John Deed, who had been working this ground, and he said that it was nuggety ground. Sometimes he would get a nugget of 12oz, and then nothing for months. The rufj n on Friday last took everyone out of the town that could go.
