PAROA ROAD BOARD,
A meeting of the Board was held on Monday, the 9th instant, for the purpose of receiving tenders for the Grey and Paroa road, when there were present —Messrs O'Connor (in the chair), O'Dowcl, Symons, and Barnhill. The road for which tenders were called extends from Nelson Creek to the town boundary, and is divided into two sections, which the Board intended to construct* payment to b« made part in cash, part in bills bearing 12 per cent, interest. It was found, however, that this course would involve the Board in considerable difficulties, as all the money available, after paying for Contract No. 1 from Nelson Creek to Paroa, did not amount to more than L 350. The following were the tenders for section No. 2 :—Matheson, L 465 15s, including culverts ; Campbell, L 576 15s, do; Rowley, L 592 10s, do; M'Kenzie, LGI9, do: M'lntyre, LBOB, do.
On the motion of Mr Barnhill, seconded by Mr O'Dowd, it was re3olved that Mr Matheson's tender for section No. 2 be accepted, subject to some arrangement to be made with, him relative to reducing the rate of interest on the bills of the Board.
No tender -for section' No. 3 was accepted, but it was decided to apply all the available funds under the Payment to Provinces Act, 1871, to the payment of the work undertaken.
The Chairman here informed the Board that Peter Campbell had completed his contract, aud that' the work had been passed. The Board then adjourned.
