There is at preseut on the stocks in the strip-building yard of Messrs Niccol,' North Shore, Auckland, a very prettily-modelled screw steamer, intended for the Wangarei, Bay of Islands, and Mongonui trade. Her length. of keel is 100 ft overall; breadth of beam, 17ft ; depth of hold, 7ft ; and her registered tonnage will, be about 80 tons. She is scbooner-riggel and coppered and copper-fastened throughout. Her screw is outside the aternpost, so that working in solid water beyond the rudder it will have more power than the screw as ordinarily fitted. It is of brass, works in a brass case shaft, and weighs half a ton. The engines are on the. compound principle, and are of local manufacture. The vessel is built wholly of the heart of kauri .and polmta--kawa. Her"" passenger accommodation will be very spacious, and good in every respect. We notice that two other small, vessels are also on the stocks in Messrs Niccol's building yards. — New Zealand Hcrahl.
