Auckland^ Aug. 30. The following is one day's later English special unpublished telegrams : — London, July 17. The Geneva arbitration met yesterday. A large quantity of printed matter >was submitted, and exchanged by the agents of Britain and America. The court adjourned after the session in less than half-, an-hour. No reason is anticipated for future delay in proceedings, nor is a lengthy controversy expected. An influential meeting of Catholics was held last night. The Duke of Norfolk presided. The meeting adapted resolutions, protesting against the action «)f the Italian Government towards Papal authorities, and condemning the law passed by the German Parliament prosecuting Jesuit?. Lord Francis Napier succeeded the late Earl Mayo as Governor-General of India pro ton. He was created a Peer under the title of Baron Ettrick. The Times, commenting upon the Stokes trial, says, at Boston what we call this miscarriage of justice is that indifference which Americans feel for violent crimes where murderer and victim are rowdies. Cornwall, who assisted in the abduction of Dr. Brathon, was sentenced to three years in the penitentiary. Liverpool quotations for wheat on July 17, 12s 3d.
