Wellington, Aug. 19.

The ceremony of turning the first sod of the Hutt and Wellington Railway was performed to-day, and with great eclat, by the Governor, with whom Lady Bowen was present. About fifteen hundred people assembled, including the Superintendent, members of the Executive, jfche Mayor, and most of the members of both Houses of Assembly. A great many ladies were present, and all the Volunteers and members of ■: the Fire Brigades turned out for the occasion. Mr Brogden read an address to the Governor, who replied.
