CHRiSTCHURcn.— The Times of Saturday reports:— The grain market remains very quiet, both for wheat and flour, although stocks of the former are light. Quotations continue merely nominal, at 4s 9d and LI 3 respectively. Barley also is in less request, as, although the market is very bare, the maltsters seem folly supplied. Prices range from os 3d to 5s <kL Oats are scarce and in fair request at 2s for prime milling samples ; but we look for easier rates as spring advances and threshing begins. The demand for all descriptions of fat stock is improving, and this is more marked as regards sheep, which for some weeks were quite neglected. Very few cattle were yarded on Wednesday, and as no fat ones were sold, we cannot base any opinion upon the value of beef from what transpired at the weekly market. Butchers seem to draw ample supplies from the farms in the neighborhood, bat the West Coast dealers have a little more difficulty than usual in making up their mobs. We mast advance our quotations this week to 22s 6d per 1001 b for good quality, and we anticipate to see a further advance before beef fattened upon new grass comes forward.
