Per Alhambra, for Melbourne: 10730z 17dwt gold, Union Bank ; 15910z 18dwt, Bank of New South Wales. The steamer Wallace left for Hokitika yesterday morning, with original cargo from Nelson. ' The barque Kate Conley, from Melbourne, remains at anchor in the roadstead. The tides are improving, and she will probably be towed in to-day. •The Alhambra arrived off the port during Wednesday night, and was tendered on Thursday morning by the ps Dispatch. She landed two passengers from Nelson, and put on board 38 passengers and 25640z ofgold shipped by the Bank of New South Wales ana the Union Bank. The accident to the Luna appears not to be serious, being merely the carrying away of her air-pump rod. She was over 100 miles from Lyttelton when she broke down, and got back easily under sail to near the anchorage. The repairs, it is said, will cost about L2O. The Peninsular and Oriental Company are making a considerable chance hi their docking arrangements, and are about to concentrate these operations in Bombay. Their steamers henceforth will only remain a short time in Sydney, turning round sharp at that end, instead of at Galle, as they have done for tome years post ; so that Melbourne and' Sydney will no longer be able to quarrel as to which shall have the profit of docking the steamers. The Bangalore, that recently bropght the extra Australian mail, was despatched from Australia as preparatory to this new arrangement, and called as an experiment at Gleoelg (some seven miles from Adelaide) for the South Australian mail, that being the first time that a P. and O. mail steamer had called in at a port in that colony since 1856.
