NEW SOUTH WALES. TTTHEREAS information has been reV V ceived by the Government that Smallpox is prevalent in the State of California, and in the Sandwich Island Group : Now, therefore, I, Sir Hercules George Robert Robinson, the Governor of tho Colony of New South Wales aforesaid, in pursuance of the powers in me vested by the Act of Council, 3 William IV., No. 1, do, with the advice of the Executive Council, hereby order and direct that, as it is probable the Smallpox maybe brought from the said places to 'this Colony, all ships or vessels arming in this Colony from the said State of California, or the Sandwich Island Group/, or from any port or place thereof, or having touched at any port or place thereof ; and all boats belonging to the said ships or vessels, and all boats navinji received any person or thing from snch ships or vessels, and all persons, goods, wares, merchandize, and other articles whatsoever, coming, or brought in, or being on board such ships, vessels, or boats, shall in every ease perform quarantine for a period of not less than seven days— such period to be extended as may be found necessary in any particular case, by any order to be made by the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council. Given under my Hand and the Seal of the ' Colony, at the Government House, Sydney, this eighth day of July, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy-two, and in the thirty-sixth year of Her Majesty's Reign. ITTHEREAS information has been reW ceived by the Government that Smallpox has made itst appearance in the Colony of New Zealand and in the Colony of Victoria : Now, therefore, I, Sir Hercules George Robert Robinson, the Governor of the Colony of New South Wales aforesaid.in pursuance of the powers in me vested by the Act of Council, 3 William IV., No. 1, do. with the Exexentive Council, hereby notify that portions of the said Colony of New Zealand and of the Slid Colony of Victoria are infected with the Raid disease, <«nd that it is possible that such disease may be brought therefrom to this Co'ony : And, with the advice aforesaid, I do order and direct that no ships or vessels arriving in this Colony from, or having touched at, any port or place in the Baia Colony of New Zealand, or the said Colony of Victoria, shall be permitted to come to the westward of Fort Denison, in Port Jackson, or past the Fair- way buoy, in the harbor of Newcastle, and that no person or persons shall be allowed to land from such ships or veajels until the permission of the Health Officer shall have beeu duly obtained. JL IV, No. 1, relating to the performance of Quarantine, by vessels arriving at the Ports of this Colony, are published for general information. - W. R. PIDDINGTON. Penally on masters quitting or suffering persons to quit vessels liable to Quarantine ; or not conveying such vessels to appointed places.— Penalty on persons quitting such vessels. 6. And be it further enacted — That if any commander master or other person being in charge, of any vessel liable to perform Quarantine shall himself quit or shall knowingly permit or suffer any seaman or passenger or other person to quit such vessel by going on shore or by going on board any other vessel or beat before such Quarantine shall be fully performed (unless by such license as shall be granted by virtue of any Orders made by the Governor with the advice of the Executive as aforesaid) or in case any commander or other person having charge of such ship shall not, -within a convenient time after due notice given for that purpose cause such vessel and the lading thereof to be conveyed into the place or places appointed for Bach vessel and lading to perform Quarantine then and in every such cose every commander master or other person as aforesaid for every such offence shall forfeit and pay the snm of four hundred pounds and if any such poiion coming in any snch vessel to Quarantine (or any pilot or other person going on board the same either before or after the arrival of such vessel at any port or place within the said Colony) shall either before or after such arrival quit such vessel unless by such license as aforesaid by going on shore or by going on board any other vessel or boat with intent to go on shore as aforesaid before rach vessel so liable to Quarantine as aforesaid shall be regularly discharged from the performance thereof it shall and may be lAWtnl forany person whatsoever by any kind of necessary force to compel such pilot or other person so quitting such vessel so liable to Quarantine to return on beard the same and every such pilot or othtr person so quitting such vessel no liable to Quarantine shall for every snch offence snfTcr imprisonm<tnt for the space of six months and shall forfeit the sum of three hundred pounds.
