Dunkdin.— The Daily Times of the loth July reports: — Breadstuff's have slightly strengthened, and are brisk h. demand. Floor remains at last quotations. Wheat is in good supply and firmer ; price from 5b 3d to 5s Gd. Barley is becoming very scarce. The quotations are, for good, lots, 5s 6d ; for inferior, 4s 9d. Oats are quoted. Is 8d to 1b 9d for feeding, 1b lid to 2s for milling. . Cbbistchurch.— The Lylklton Times of the 20th July says : — ' In the grain market no improvement has taken place ; in fact, wheat is, if anything, weaker. A few small sales are reported at 4a 8d to 4s lOd, but holders and buyers appear alike disinclined to operate freely. Private letters from Melbourne advise a decline, and the effect here has been to maka quotations unsteady. The millers complain of the difficulty iv placing flour ; but there appears no inclination on their part to reduce quotations. Barley is meeting with a fair support; samples now offering are somewhat inferior. Oats are still moving freely at 2s, with plenty of buyers to absorb all offering, notwithstanding the state of the Auckland market Provisions are in excellent request, and butter is now selling freely at 9}d to 9&d. Cheese is scarce, and cannot be got nnder 5d to s}d. Hams and bacon are unaltered, at 7d to 7*d.
Melbourne.— The Argus ot the 20th inst. reports :—
In the import marketß business is still quiet, and without anything of interest being allowed to oome before us. Of floor, sales are confined to the quittance of bakers' parcels, at prices ranging from Lls 10s to LIG, thus showing additional weakness, for most buyers limit their offers to LI 5 10s and Lls Im. In wheat, there is little to report. About 1200 bushels inferior Adelaide were disposed of at 5s fld to 5s 9d ; 1000 bushels Port M'Donnell were placed at 6s 4(d, or thereabouts. A considerable parcel of Tasmanian has been offering at 6s 3d. Oats are without the slightest alteration. There is no enquiry, and the market is decidedly less firm. Quotations of feeding are nominal at 3a to 3s 2d. Maize is steady at 3s Id for parcels. The stock is light, Jbut supplies coming forward are quite ample for requirements. ' There is an improved demand for blasting powder. About 20 tons KameV have been sold forjßxport, at prices Bhowing a good advance on late sales to arrive. The principal portion of the stock held here is now in the hands of one holder. Sales of Brandon's candles are reported at lljd. Tartaric acid meets with a better enquiry ; we understand that 2s Id was offered and refused, for shipment. For sugars wo note an increased demand ; large parcels are tinder offer, and expected to be closed for. We hear of sales of medium congou teas, ex Tek-ii, at Is sd. Ingot tin is in somewhat alow sale ; for best English bnuHs Is Cijrt to Is 7d is asked. A shipment of five tons was sold on private terms.
