A Larceny Bill has been drawn and introduced by Mr Curtis, as an example of how Acts may be couched in plain English devoid of legal technical language. The BUI was read a second time, after a debate, and was referred to . a Select Committee. Fox. Gisborne, and Shepherd (Otago) opposed the Bill. Sheehan, Gillies, and Luckie supported it; : The second reading of the Public Trust Office Bill was carried on a division by 23 to 14: ;;'■ ' " ;':■.. " : _-. ' ] The Life Assurance Companies BUI was read a second time after some further debate. ' ',=; ; In reply to a question by Swanson, Fox stated that it was not intended to introduce an Education Bill this session, as the debates last session showed there was not unanimity of feeling: in the House on even the leading principles, and subsequent events ■ showed that any general Bill at present would be distasteful to large sections of the community, and Provinces which had hitherto neg" lected education were now showing more zeal, thus obviating any urgent necessity for a Bill. v | An Imprest Supply BUI for L 130,000 was passed.. ..... ..... . The Tramway b BUI was read a second time. Gillies, O'Neill, Richardson, Monro, Sheehan, and Murray all waraly congratulated the Government oh the introduction of such a useful and valuable measure; - ' ■ ■ • .
