Windy and murky weather has prevailed for the last forty-eight hours,- and all-coast-ing traffic has been interrupted. The Marray remains in Greymouth, and the Wallabi in Westport, and at present' there is no appearance of the severity of the weather abating. Of the ocean steamers, the Bangitoto is next expected from Melbourne, being due at Hokitika to-da>. Mr Stewart, 'the Government Inspector of Steamers, according to instructions from Wellington, examined the shaft of the mail steamship Nevada on Friday last His report states that "the shaft is in just the same state as when examined at Dunedin, and he considered it quite safe for the Nevada to proceed to Honolulu under the same pressure of steam as mentioned in the report nude by Mr Nancarrow, Inspector of Steameis at Wellington." In the Auckland Police Court the case was called against Captain Harding, of the Nebraska for a breach of regulations by giving false and evasive answers relative to the health of the ship, and a farther summons for not hoisting health officer's flag at the month of the bay was issued. Defendant not appearing, the case was adjourned until 7th August. At Wellington, the vessel was quarantined, and the mails fumigated.
