PAROA ROAD BOARD.

A meeting of the Board ..was v held oil last Thursday, at Paroa, when all the members were present, including the neyvly-elected member, .Mr. H. Symons, who was introduced by .the Chairman with a few suitable remarks. ; The minutes of the general half-yearly meeting were confirmed, and the correspondence, -. consisting of thirteen or fourteen letters, was received. Among them we notice a coramunica--tion from Mr Harrison, M.H:R., in reply to a request of the Board to use his best endeavors to prevent 1 the Board frpm being interfered with in the construction of the Grey- Road, payment for which is proposed to be made out of the allowance under the Payment to Provinces Act, 1871. Mr Harrison stated that he had forwarded the letter of the Board to the Colonial Treasurer, accompanied by some remarks from himself and by a copy of Mr Lahman's letter to the Board on the subjeot. Mr Harrison stated that it appeared: to\ him quite clear that Mr Lahman had a position not warranted. :by the Act in question,, and evidently misconstrued the purport of it. He represented; to the Colonial Treasurer the inadyisability of interfering with the constitutional powers, of the Board, as attempted by the County Chairman, and thought, whether the County Chairman or anyone else approvod of the work or not, payment must be made under the Act, if its provisions have otherwise been complied with. ' ■■'■■-■•■ ""■ A vote "of thanks was ordered to be entered in the minutes for Mr Harrison's prompt and energetic steps in the above matter! A. number of assessments were then amended, and some accounts were passed for payment. = The Rate Collector handed in his re-; port} showing further receipts on account of rates since last roport of L2B 17s. Before the meeting adjourned, Mr

Dowling gave notice to move^~"That in consequence of all parts of the Road District not being represented in this Board by members, the meetings of the Board, on and after the Ist of August next, be held at Maraden, there to transact all business."
