THE Grey River Argus. PUBLISHED DAILY. FRIDAY, JULY 19, 1872.

It will be seen by our telegrams that, in the House of Representatives, the address in reply to the Speech with which His Excellency opened Parliament has already been adopted, and without much apparent discussion. As we ventured to express at the .time of the receipt of the. telegrams of its text,- and as plainly expressed yesterday by the Hon. Mr Stafford, any subjects of discussion were conspicuous by their absence, and it could scarcely be expected that upon the address in reply nhfcb debate could ensue unless it were on matters raised by the mover and seconder. As the mover Mr Luckie seems simply to have identified the Ministry with that policy of peace and progress of which he approves. The seconder, Mr Sheehan, was more discursive, and alluded to ' Borne points, which, if he adhere to thorn during the session, may probably be the means of causing the Ministry and him, yet 'appearing in different lobbies. With his six-hundred signaturepowerpetition, the member for the Buller District, it will be seen, has sought an inquiry into the circumstances of his land purchase as a private person or as a Provincial Councillor, and a committee is to sit which will cost the country considerably more than the majority of sections in Westport are worth, and will probably involve the presence in Wellington of his Buller, Charleston, and ..Grey Valley colleagues in the Council. So may it be, and so should it be, perhaps, in the interest of preserving the purity of the House against either direct or indirect reflections by anyone of its members. The same representative made an explanation as to some statements made by him in the recess regarding circumstances connected with the acceptance of his honorarium, and having heard that an explanation would be required of him, we venture to hope that it was not less satisfactory than required.
