WESTLAND WASTE LANDS BOARD.

[west coast times, july 16.] An auction sale of suburban land was held at the Land Office yesterday. The attendance was large, considering that there were but nine lots to be sold, and that only in respect to three of them was there any competion. Lot No. 1423 excited some very spirited bidding and was eventually knocked down to Messrs Kilgour and Perotti, for L3OO, plus valuation for improvements, L2OO. That lot comprised the land— 7^ acres— upon Which Mr W. H. Harrison had built a house and made other improvements, and which was brought under the designation 1 of "suburban land" by the Waste Lands Board altering the boundary of the. town of Greymouth for that purpose. The bidders yesterday for the slice of town land thus cut off were Messrs Kilgour, Scott, Cozens, Driscoll, Joyce, and-Haw-kins. Most of them were evidently acting ac agents for , residents in Greymouth, and though there was mucli excitement amongst them even as matters were, it is more' than probable that had the principals been present a.higher price would have been given for the land. As it was, the amount realised brought the price to 1140 per acre, while. if the lot had remained town land the upset price would have been L4B per acre. Lot 1426, which was also competed for, had been put up to auction on the application of Alexander Hosie, but was knocked down to Thomas Joyce for L3l, the upset price being L2O. The other lot for which there was competition was No. 1445, put up. for sale on the application of Dennis Hannan, who eventually became the purchaser for L 26, the upset price being LlO. The total amount realised at the sale was L 422, and the following are some of the particulars :— No. 1423. — Seven acres two roods, in Block LXVII, south of and adjoining Town of Greymouth. Upset price, Lls ; purchased by Kilgour and Perotti, for L3OO, besides L2OO to be paid for improvements*' No. 1426.-— Ten acres, in Block LXVII, near ..Town of Greymouth, Upset price, L2O ; purchased by Thomas Joyce, for .•131. : - ■•;.-■■;•■ : ■-■ ■■" ■'. •■"■ ■ No. 1427.— Ten acres in Block LXVH, near/Town of Greymouth. Fox applied, on behalf of Mr Bradley, who holds Section 1112 in Block 1, Grey district, to purchase land adjoining his section, and which forms part of the Railway Reserve. The Board' could not entertain the application^ because, although the . railway is not now to run through' that Reserve, still the land had been gazetted as a Reserve; and until lifted could not be dealt with. Mr Fox • then applied that the Board recommend that the Reserve be lifted and the land thrown open for sale. The Board were not inclined to accede to the request, as there were other holders of sections who had /purchased their land on the understanding of haying a frontage to the Reserve. David Thomas Faulkner applied, by his agent, Mr Learmouth, to have 10 acres of suburban land, in Block 52, Grey district, put up to auction. Granted, L 5 depoflit paid.
