NEW WIND PUMP.

A very ingenious wind pump may mow be inspected on the premises of Mr Williams, engineer and iron-founder, Christ church. The. pump is an American patent by A. P. Brown, and was shown at the Sydney Exhibition, where it was purchased for Mf J. E. Brown, who intends to erect it on his farm at Swannanoa, Eyreton. Hitherto the drawback to the employment of wind pumps has been their liability to damage by gales of wind, but this fault is entirely removed in the machine under notice, indeed it is the primary point for which the patent w*s granted. The machfne now in Mr Williams' yard is a sme 1 ! one, but the pniK^ple on which it is worked can of course be applied to any size. There are six sheet iron blades 18iri by J6in on iron arms which work in a socket in the centre of each plate. On each arm there is a ol&rong wire spring, and in each socket Ufere is a slit in which a small pin pro-
