The Board of Health have recommended the Government to declare Auckland an infected port, and that all ships from Auckland be quarantined twenty-fofir hours at their first port of arrival ; that the passengers be inspected, and the mails and baggage fumigated ; that subsequently the passengers be allowed to land after inspection by competent authorities ; thatships' companies be not allowed to land at uninfected ports ; that communication between ships and ports be restricted; that at each port the extent of communi. cation should be defined by the Health Officer ; and that ships should be subject to inspection at every port. The Board further recommends the establishment of small-pox hospitals in secluded positions, and that powers be taken by the Legislature to render vaccination compulsory, and for the removal of infected persons to small-pox hospitals.
