Christchuruh.—The Lytielton Times of the Bth has the following report of the local grain market :— Some activity has been noticeable in tho grain market during the week, several la-ge parcels of both wheat and oats having changed bands at. full quotations. The John Knox and Rangitoto nave taken a considerable quantity of wheat, the bulk of which cost fjom 5s Id to 5s 3d fo b. Oats are also moving freely, and a large shipment is being made by the Parana to the Mauritius, the price of which, we understand, is 2s 3d on board; but holders now refuse to accept this figure, and are demanding 2s 4d fo b. For farmers' lots we quote 2s to 2s Id for choice milling samples at the station. Flour also is firm, as the millers are paying 4s lOd to 5s for prime wheat in town. In barley, we have few sales to report; prime malting is good stock, and 5s 6d to 5s 9d is the market quotation, while inferior samples touch 4s 9d to ss. Butter cortinuea scarce at 9d, and cheese 5d to s&d. No alteration in the value of hams and bacon can be noted ; a steady business is doing at last week's quotations. Of the cattle market the same paper says:— Fat cattle are still in plentiful supply, but the price is hardening a little, ard is likely to continue to do so. Few cattle, except those receiving artificial food of some kind are laving on flesh at this- season of the year, and we must expect to see the supply gradually diminishing as the winter ad vances. We quote beef of good quality, at 20s per 1001 b.
