PAROA ROAD BOARD.
The half-yearly general meeting of the Board was held on Tuesday, at noon. Present — Messrs O'Connor (Chairman), O'Dowd and Dowling, The minutes of the previous meeting having been read, were confirmed, and the following correspondence was laid on the table and ordered to be received :— Letter from County Chairman, asking what steps the Board intends to take with reference to the tolls on Marsden roads. Letter from same, notifying the asked for extension of time, granted by his Excellency, for the holding of an election of a member of the Board. - Letter from. P. Campbell; contractor, stating that an error had occurred in his tender, he having tendered for 60 chains 83 links, instead of 63 chains 83 links. It was then resolved to inform the County Chairman that -the Board would take the earliest opportunity of recommending to the Council a suitable person to be appointed toll collector, and that the funds derived from the tolls would be expended in the maintenance of the road, for which tenders would.be called without delay. Messrs O'Dowd and Dowling were appointed to sign the ; contract for the Greymouth road, on behalf of the Board, and the Secretary laid before the, meeting the half-yearly balance-sheet of 12th June, a so the annual statement of receipts and expenditure of Ist July. From the latter it will be seen that the receipts of the Board, for the year ending 30fch June last, were L 546 4s 4d,' being made up as follows : — £ s. d. Assessment and collectioD of rates ... £69 2 0 Collection of t0115 ... 3 15 0 Salaries ... ... 119 9 0 Printing and advertising 36 11 6 Miscellaneous ... 3813 6—267 11 0 Balance in hand, July Ist, 1872 9 4 7 £546 4 4 After examining the various items of the statement, : Mr Dowxing moved and Mr O'Dowd seconded, " That from the date of the last balance sheet, the interest to be credited by the Paroa District Road Board to its creditors be at the rate of 8 per cent, per annum. — Carried. The contractor's error was permitted to be rectified, as even then his tender would be the lowest, and the Chairman was requested to supervise the work, especially with regard to the proper construction of the culverts. The Board then adjourned. <
