A slice of unwonted good fortune has befallen an Auckland settler, such as does not often fall to the lot of colanists. This lucky individual, who has been living at the Bay of Islands, has just received notice from England that ho is the possessor of L 300,000. Tais, it seems, is the accumulation of a stun of money which for a length of time has been locked up hi the Oourfc of Chancery, and which now, with the interest of years, is once more to see the light of doy. The owner has been advertised for for some years, but until lately his whereabouts could not . ba discovered. The Thames Advertiser says that a proposal with reference to the format-ion of a r.vil way from Point Russell to the Thames has already assumed a definite form, an offer hiving been forwarded to the Minister of Works, on behalf of an English company prepared to find the necessary capital to carry out this des ; -able md most important work. .
