THE LICENSE OF THE LICENSING ACT.
[to the editor.] Sir— Knowing that your columns are always open to do justice where justice is due, I venture to address you on the following subject :— Yesterday, I sent a written application to the Resident Magistrate's Court for permission to give a ball thia evening at my hotel, in commemoration of the anniversary of American Independence. My letter was not recognised until I paid the sum of 4s, which they tuok f rora me, and immediately refused my application on the score that I was n t an American. Now, how are the mighty rulers at the R.M. Court to know whether I am an American or not 1 In conclusion, I should like to know to w hat fund they have placed my poor estreated 4s. Trusting you will insert this, I am, &c, Thomas Bailey, A "Blue-nose." > July 4, 1872.
