Financial affairs are nourishing, A commercial treaty with Portugal has been sanctioned. The German Catholic bishops are about to assemble to concert as to the attitude of the Government. Bismarck proposes to summon an international congress to discuss the present postal arrangements. World, Betel, and Tibkecht, socialists, have been convicted of high treason and sentenced to two years' imprisonment. A general lock-out has taken place in the building trade in Berlin. The Hungarian Parliament closed on the 16th. The Imperial speech was hopeful in tone. The Exhibition at Moscow opens in June. Patriotic fetes have been held in Holland in commemoration of national independence. Some disturbances fomented by rabid Catholics took place. Great distress prevails in Antiocb, where 1600 persons have perished by an earthquake, Large discoveries of gold are reported in Honduras.
