The schooner Florence, Captain Abson, from Melbourne, was sighted in the offing yesterday morning. Early on ihe tide the p s Dispatch ran out to sea, fastened on to the scnooner, and, although there was a heavy sea running on the' bar at the time, brought her safely to the wharf. She brings a large general cargo, and is consigned to Messrs Kennedy Brothers. The details of her cargo will be found stated above*. Tho Kennedy, from Nelson, is expected here to-day, and also the s s Waipara, from Hokitika, with the Greymouth portion of the Tarawa's cargo. Messrs M'Meckan, Blackwood, and Co.'s steamer Tararua, from Melbourne, via Hokitika, arrived in the Toadstead yesterday afternoon. Captain Pearce reports leaving Sandridge Pier at 2 p.m on the Bth inßt, and passed the Sisters Island at 9 a.m on tho following morning. From thence experienced strong S. and S. W gales, with high sea, until nearing the land ; then fresh N.E breeze and thick weather ; Btopped engines at 3 o'clock until daylight, and arrived at Hokitika after a splendid passage of four days 19 hours. She was tendered by the 8 b Waipara, on Thursday afternoon, and again yesterday, then came on here. Although late ou the tide the p s Dispatch - ran but and tendered tho Tararua, so that she was not delayed a single hour at this port. The inward passengers were landed at the wharf at 7 p.m.
