The leases issued are for the following mining districts :— Ararat : Pleasant Creek- division.- Bal- . larat : Chines and Steiglitz divisions. Beechworth : Alexandra division. Castle-, maine : Taradale, Kyneton, Hepburn, Tarrengower, Castlemaine, and Fryer's Creek divisions. Gipp3 Land : Jericho division. Maryborough: Maryborough, Korong, and Tarnagulla divisions. Sandhurst : Sandhurst, Raywood, Heathcote, and Waranga divisions. For the Sandhurst division there are no less, thin 255 leases issued, and for Castlemaine division 97, and for Fryer's Creek 42. ;. The Kyneton Guardio/n writes as follows respecting a mining scandal thai has been afloat at that place :— " A statement seriously affecting the character of Mr James Minors, the mining manager of Hie Brandenberg Company, Malmsburjr, has been in circulation.
