Chriftchurch.—The LytUUon Times, of Saturday last reports : — In tbe grain market an active inquiry exists for wheat, at an advance on late rates. Tbe combined advices of a steady rise in Australia are now being felt bere, and holders of wheat in store are chary of quitting unless at very full figures. Very little is offering, the wet weather having checked threshing for the last fortnight Buyers are offering 4s 4d freely for forward delivery, but the balk of the farmers who are holders have thatched their stacks, and do not seem disposed to sell before spring. Millers have advanced their quotations for flour to Ll3 for best town brands, and country ditto ranges from Lll 15s to Ll2 ss. Oats have slightly improved, and prime heavy samples are quitted more readily, at Is lOd. Barley is wanted badly, and a very, superior malting parcel is reported to have been quitted at ss. In provisions, butter remains firm at 7Jd ; cheese, at 4Jd. New cure of hams and bacon are scarcely ready—quotations stand atf 7a ,to7Jd. i... ..,;..
