The s s Albion has been detained by the Government in Wellington for tbe purpose of taking on the Suez mail to Melbourne. She will leave on Monday for Nelson, and may be expected to put in an appearance here on Wednesday. An erroneous idea in reference to the nonarrival of the barque Kate Conley at Melbourne, hss arisen. She arrived safely on the 25th ult. The following report of her passage is from the Age, of the 26th ult :— " The barque|Kate Conley, from Greymouth the 7th inst, had nearly the whole of the passage to contend against contrary gales. She made the Sisters on the 22nd and passed, the Schanck on the 23rd. On the 18th she had a very heavy southerly gale lasting 20 hours."

The smart little ketch Venture, from Kaixpoi has made a good trip and arrived off the port this morning. The Despatch ran out aud brought her m without trouble or delay. She brings a cargo of produce. - It is probable that the s s Kennedy will show up sometime during the day, when she will be immediately despatched for Westport and Nelson. She was in Hokitika yesterday. As recently mentioned in our telegrams, Mr' Day, of the Sumner Hotel, informs the LytUUon Time* that on Wednesday a piece of cedar about 12ft long, bearing the words "Harvest Home," was pickedup on the Sumner beach. His opinion is, that the timber is part of the stern of a vessel, though he states that tin letters in the words mentioned are only about 3in. in leogtb. They are out into the timber and painted white, whilst! between the words " Harvest " and "Home "there is something which appears like the representation of a castle (? sheaf of wheat). The ship Harvest Home sailed from Lyttelton for London, on April 16.
