In an article on " The Mines," the Sydney Morning Herald recountii the following anecdote of her Majesty the Queen :— " A large part of the revenues of the Prince of Wales i« derived from the mines of Cornwall. The late Prince Albert took great interest in tbeir advancement, and in the welfare of the miners. On one of his visits he was accompanied by the Queen. Of her visit to a mine in Cornwall, a working miner gave the following account :— ' I could not sleep for the night, thinking what I should say to the Prince, and what the Prince would say to me. Well, in the morning, sore enough, we saw the shay coming. The Queen cot out I and ran about the wet grass like a billy. She asked, "Is it safe to go into the main?" '.'Safe," says I, "yes, safe as the rock of Gibraltar !" The Queen skipped in like a lamb, and I do believe I touched her* As. they were couiig out the Queen said, " What is that t iere blue wht that I d » gee?" "Bliss \ott ma'am, ih»t's tie l^hto" day."
