Kennedy, from Nelson Charles Edward, from Nelson 10, from Melbourre " Mary Camming, from Melbourne Magnet, from Melbourne Murray, from Nelson Albion, from Melbourne Tararua, from Melbourne Wallabi, from Wanganui VESSELS IN POKT. Dispatch, tug-steamer
The 88 Albion arrived at tho Bluff yesterday afternoon. The latest Australian news brought by her will be found in another column. She will come rouad the ports, and be despatched from here in about ten days. In our telegrams, published to-day, it is stated that the Magnet had sailed for Lyttleton. As a brig of this name is miasing on her voyage between Melbourne and Greymonth, this announcement may give rise to anticipations which have no grounds, as we notice by the Melbourne Argus, of the 1 7th April, that a ship named the Magnet, of 679 tons, J. E. Crosby, master, had cleared out for Lyttelton. From the published manifest it is imposaiblo that the same quantity of goods could have been earned by a brig. The p8 Charles Edward passed down to Hokitika early yesterday forenoon, and may therefore be looked for some time to-day, en route for Westport and Nelson. We are glad to find that the ss Murray is again at work. She arrived at Westport Sflterday, and was to leave last evening for okitiha direct, instead of as usual coming to this port first. She is likely to show up here on this afternoon's tide, and will leave to-morrow for Nelson via Westport. The New Zealand Steam Shipping Company were tinder a bond of LSOO with Mr Webb's agent to deliver the outward mails in 86 hours from Otago to Manukau ; and the service was performed in 74 hours, including a stoppage of three hours at Lyttelton, two of which sho was detained by the Resident Minister, and eight hours at Wellington for coaling. In the case at present pending in the Sydney Court against the Nevada for sinking the A. H. Badger on the 15th October, the damages claimed are L2OOO for the value of the barque, L6so'for her cargo, and L 425 for her freight, which, if her voyage had been completed, she would have earned- Mr Gordon and Mr Darley, instructed by Messrs Norton and Barker, appeared for the promovents, and Sir William Manning, Q.C., and Mr Henry Stephen, instructed by Messrs Stephen and Stephen, for the respondents. The case, as our readers are aware, remains in stalu quo.
