INANGAHUA ITEMS.
[herald.] ■"■'•;. During the past week the reef has been struck in Sinnoinon's lease, adjoining Nos. X and 2 south Shiel's line, the prospects obtained confirm the value of the various claims already opened on this line of reef.^ _ \Z' ■„,'".".. '- "In Redman'l Gulfy, there are"now four claims at work, the holders of such seeming to have made up their" mind to settle down for the winter. .., : ii Nos. 3 and 4 south Thompson's 16$-acre lease, 12 men. Three wages men are put on to work, to try for the reef before the lease is granted. In. Caples' claim the men are busily preparing timber 'for a tunnel, which the manager proposes patting in at a low leveL The length will be about 165 ft, and, will commence about 150ft from theboundwy. He thatjie wilLcut^the jweflat 99ft per^ndicular, but as it has got a dip of one in three; ; there i will' be 130 ft of quartz overhead. The tunnel will be 4«t by 'contract. ♦ • , .- Baigent and party (prospectors), Gaffney's line, are making preparations to pot .a tunnel into the hul iSjtpotid, the last two drives, owing to the loose nature of the ground, having slipped in with them. :. , ; ii.^ a; "> ■ ; In No. 1 south,- Gaffney's, two men ate at work, and have made over 20ft he«d-
way in a drive, with which they expect to hit the reef in about 150 ft In Potter's line, Larry's Creek, owing to bad weather, very little has been done. No. 1 south are preparing the timber for a shaft which they are about to sink, and have now got a good pile of slabs ready. Iv Flower's Gully but one party is at work, the rest having left to obtain contracts on the roads. Indeed, from Bedman's, Burkes, and other gullies, a huge number of diggers have done the same thing, and where formerly one would see a few scattered up and down, now everything is deserted. In Burkes only two parties are at work, in Raglan's one, and in Italian's one; these gullies are as yet not anytbingjtlike worked 1 out, although some very good patches of gold have been obtained from each of them. Had the rain set in one month sooner there would have been a dearth of men en the Reefton and Buller road. On Saturday the prospectors and Nos. 1, 2, and 3 south, Kelly's line, amalga mated, struck the reef in the shaft they have been lately sinking, for the purpose of getting the reef already obtained by Rhody Ryan, north of and adjoining tbe prospectors. The reef was disclosed at a deptn of 70ft in the ground ef No. 3, and was found to contain similar stone to that recently obtained by the Westland Company (Ryan and party). This important discovery has given an increased value to •the shares of the company. The amalgamated claims are registered as the United Band of Hope Gold Mining Company.
