The steamer Wallabi returned to port yesterday, after a rapid run to and from Wanganui, via Westport. She discharged her stock on the north side of the river, and would have sailed yesterday evening, but it blew strongly from the north-west all day, and there is at present a heavy sea prevailing along the coast. The schooner Venture, with a cargo of produce from Kaiapoi, arrived off the bar early yesterday morning, and without difficulty sailed into the river. She arrived and took the bar in the nick of time, as there is now a. considerable surf along shore, and a heavy sea outside. Messrs M'Meckan, Blackwood ond Co.'s steamer Gothenburg is the next vessel due at this port from Melbourne. Her arrival may be expected on Sunday next, the 7th inst.

The steamer Charles Edward arrived in Hokitika, from Martin's Bay, on Monday at 1 p.m. Captain Whit well reports leaving the Hokitika wharf on Friday, the 29th ult., at 1 p.m., arriving at Big Bay on Saturday at 10 a.m. At this place landed Woodgate and party, also a quantity of stoics. Left Big Bay at noon, and arrived off Martin's Bay at 1 p.m., bat in consequence of there being a rather heavy surf on the bar, stood off and came to anchor. Hove up anchor at 8 a.m. on Sunday and came abreast of the bar, sent the boat ashore and landed a quantity of stores. Left Martin's Bay at 3 p.m. same day, called in again at Big Bay, and landed Williamson and mate. Left Big Bay at 4 p.m. , arriving in the Hokitika roadstead shortly after 11 a. m., crossing the bar aa above.
