NO TOWN.
[FROM A COItIIESPONDENT.] The Maori Gullies No. 1 and ' 2, of which so much was expected about a month since, has not come up to the anticipations of those who rushed them; The rush- to No; 1 being over; the few diggers still left have quietly settled down, contenting themselves with making small wages. The~No. 2 Gully has still many 'claims paying .'fair wages, and probably a few doing something more. ; At Joyce's, although the gully had been abandoned, some' enterprising men, will, if their application be granted; bring in a race some five miles in length that will command some of the best sluicing ground in the No Town district. Cockney Terrace, which was the great attraction before Christmas, is now pretty veil used up j still there are a few claims yet giving fair returns, and in the lefthand branch of Cockney Terrace nearly all the tunnels have been carried in upon wrong levels. The waste water of the left-hand branch of No Town Creek, I observe, is already being utilised, Tom Lane and party having diverted it on to one of the flat terraces, of which there are many up this branch, and beyond doubt their spec will handsomely reward them for their enterprise. ' Chapel Terrace, which is situated behind the township, has been attracting some attention during the last few weeks, and with some show of success, price's of ' gold from 22dwt : to 2oz having been obtained, but the scarcity of water on. this terrace retards their operations. ' About Marshall's Terrace a good fow have taken the Reefton fever, but before many months i^ is fully expected arebound will sot in. .■■".' Rough and Tumble is about the same, the Messrs Corbett still successfully working there. The long drought is .operating greatly against business, maYing, money every day scarcer.
