[per oreville's telegraph company, REUTEII's AGENTS.] Hokitika, March 26; The s.s. Rangitoto, Captain Mackie, left Melbourne on the afternoon of the 20th, and arrived at four o'clock this morning. Passenger List.— Miss Mackie, Miss Renton, Mrs R. Herman, Mr and Mrs Masters and family, Messrs Andrew, Lyall, Gravds, M'Carthy, M'Beath, Gilbert, Head, Price, W. Wilmott, T. Robertson, Dr Maunsell, and 30 in the steerage. Melbourne, March 20. Mr Webb has left for Sydney. A case of breach of promise of marriage has been tried. Miss Maunsell, daughter of a Melbourne solicitor, sued Mr Michael Cassius, of Hokitika, for LSOOO. The jury awarded L 350. There is a Ministerial banquet to-night at Castlemaine, when the Govesnment programme is expected to be submitted. Mr Yogel, it is believed, will be present. The Theatre Royal has been totally destroyed by fire. Large damage was done to surrounding properties. Mr Vale has promised further concessions as to drawbacks to facilitate intercolonial trade. Flour, LI 2 15s ; wheat, 5s sd. Of New Zealand oats of a fine samplo, ex St. Kilda, a portion was auctioned at 3s' 3d ; the rest was held for au advance in price. Maize, 3s 6d. Of Tookey's shares, no sales are reported. They are held for L 5. Arrived.— Rangitoto, Albion, Emulous, Gleaner, and Magnet. Sailed.— Kate Conley. Sydney, March 19. The police have traced the murdered man Bridges, ward-room steward of the Rosario, from leaving ship till engaged in a situation at Paramatta, near where his murdered body was found. They have apprehended Nicholls, a butcher, and Lester, a lad of 19, both of whom had previously been in gaol. Lester had in his possession
a watch belonging to a man named Walter, who had been missing for some time, and. whose body was subsequently found. • It is believed that systematic murderings have been discovered. Nicholls exhibits bravado. Lester is terror-stricken, and will probably turn approver. Sailed.— City of Melbourne, for Auckland. Newcastle, March 19.
