The p s Charles Edward is expected here on Monday morning, with a patty of Nelson excursionists to the races; The a s Waipara made another trip up here from flokitika yesterday, with the balance of tha Claud Hamilton's Melbourne cargo. She will return to Hokitika and run an excursion trip with passengers for the races. The schooner Three Friends arrived in Constant Bay, from Westport, on Sunday forenoon, discharged, and sailed again in Monday morning's tide. The schooner Jupiter, which has been lying in Constant Bay for six or peven days, attempted to leave on forenoon, but was unable to do so : she struck against the rock and was obliged to return, having sustained some slight damage. She got out all right on Monday morning.. The Dancing Wave, schooner, from Canterbury, was towed into Westport by the steamer Murray. It is said that on the passage from Wellington to Lyttelton, the -Nebraska ran the Wellington out of Bight in three hours. The Wellington arrived at Lyttelton about four hours after the Nebraska. The Harbor Master at Westport reports that the old channel is in excellent condition, still retaining Oft of water on the bar at low water, spring tides, and 17ft at high water ; the channel is also wider and better defined than heretofore. The new channel still continues in good condition, giving, from its position, great additional facilities to vessels frequenting the harbor. The beach at the back of the town still continues to increase. The ps Result, which arrived at Westport from Auckland on the 11th instant, is a wellbuilt vessel, of 64ft in length, 12ft Gin beam, and 4ft depth of hold. The frame is pohutukawa timber, planked with kauri. She is propelled by a single high-pressure geared engine, of 10-horse power nominal, working up to 18-horse power, if necessary, and will carry about 20 tons of cargo, on a draught of 4ft. The following is an account of her passage dawn :— The p s Result left Auckland at 5 a m on Sunday, the 3rd instant, calling at the Bay of Islands next day ; remained there 30 hours. On the sth she left the Bay at 3am;. the North Cape was rounded nn the 6th at 8 pm, with a fresh easterly wind, which continued for two days, the i shifted to the north-cast, and blew fresi ; lost foresail during the breeze ; on Son lay, 10th instant, the wind shifted to the south-west ; sighted Mount Rochfort on the 11th, about 10 am, and arrived at Westport the Bame night at 11 pin j most of the passage was mode under canvas,' the vessel having only been 30 hours under steam fll cue way down. The Result, since her arrival, made a trial trip, with several inhabitants on board, all of whom expressed themselves well satisfied with her capabilities for trading or towing purposes.
