«The carrier pigeons Tornado and Typhoon recently, flew, from a point in the Gulf Stream, near the Galapagos Islands, to Monclair, New Jersey, at the average speed for Tornado of 196 miles an hour, and for Typhoon of 200 miles an hour ; that is, a mile in little more than seven seconds. Typhoon was an old bird, and fell dead as soon as it reached its destination. Francis Fournier, a sharp-featured, 'wild-looking Frenchman, was convicted at the New York General Sessions of burglary? in the third degree, at Tiffany and Co.'s on the 26th of November. He was found, hid nnder a table, having in his possession a sheath-knife, file, and a twenty-foot rope. Recorder : Why did you commit that crime? Prisoner: I vasvet; I myself take in from ze rain. Recorder: Then let him be taken to the State Prison for five years until he dries.
