The Waipara left Hokitika on yesterday morning's tide, having on, board the steamengine and pile-driving apparatus to be used in connection with tbo protection works at Greymouth. Being too lato on the tide in the morning,' aho did not roach the river till the afternoon, and, after discharging tbe engine, she steamed to that unfrequented spot, the Cobden wharf, for the purpose of snipping a few tons of coal which hod been left there by one of tbe caruo-boats. Tb.e steamer Charles Edward returned from Hokitika yesterday afternoon. She sails, to-day for Vvestport and Nelson. Tho (teamer Kennedy is announced to leave Greymouth for the North on Saturday - next.
